Glynn Academy head coach Rocky Hidalgo watches his team play earlier this season.

Defense was one of the strengths of the Glynn Academy football team this season, and one player on the team stood out above everyone else — Marlon Taylor.

And it’s not just the Red Terrors’ coaches who believe Taylor was the best defensive player on the team. Enough opposing coaches recognized Taylor as the best defensive player on the field for either team that he was named the Region 2-6A defensive player of the year.

He wasn’t the only Terror to earn recognition by opposing coaches. Head football coach Rocky Hidalgo was named the region’s coach of the year.

The Terrors (8-4) clinched the region championship and defeated Evans High School 42-7 in the first round of the playoffs before losing to Valdosta in the second round.

Glynn Academy has a young team which bodes well next year with the return of the athletes who have important varsity football experience, including three first-team players on defense and two on offense. Three players receiving honorable mentions on offense and another three on defense will also return next year.
