Frederica Academy had to go to extra innings to win its first region baseball game of the season, defeating Edmund Burke 3-2 in nine innings.

The Knights scored their first two runs of the game in the first inning. With the bases loaded, an error on a fly ball by Henry Jamieson scored Deke Jernigan. A groundout by JT Whaley plated the second run.

Edmund Burke chipped away at the lead in its half of the first with a run to make it 2-1 and tied the game at 2-2 with a run in the sixth.

The scored stayed that way until the top of the ninth. Trey Thompson singled to start the inning and would score on a fielder’s choice by Jernigan for what turned out to be the winning run.

Nic Dixon started for the Knights, pitching six innings and striking out nine while allow ing four hits and two unearned runs. Eric McCall and Turner Jamieson helped keep Edmund Burke scoreless in relief.

The Knights host Edmund Burke on Thursday.


Errors came back to haunt Brunswick as the Pirates lost 7-4 at Camden County on Friday.

The Pirates grabbed a 1-0 lead after plating a run in the top of the first. A single by Harrison Trawick turned into a run three batters later with the pitcher’s courtesy runner scoring on a wild pitch.

Camden would answer with two runs in the bottom half of the inning with a triple scoring two runs after an error kept the inning alive. The Wildcats added five more runs to grab a 7-1 lead after five innings.

Brunswick plated a run in the sixth on a single by Hunter Goff to cut the lead to five.

Down to their last out in the seventh, the Pirates plated two more runs. Harrison Trawick singled, and Anthony Cleveland followed with a single to bring home Trawick. Cleveland would come around to score on a wild pitch after the Pirates loaded the bases. A strikeout would end the comeback.

Matthew Trawick led the Pirates with three hits. Harrison Trawick and Hunter Goff had two hits each.

The Pirates (12-4) host Wayne County on Friday.


The Frederica Academy boys soccer team won its region debut Tuesday, winning 3-0 at Bulloch.

FA boys coach Tim O’Sullivan was happy with the effort as the Knights had “good, solid possession” during the shutout win.

Jacob Myers, Ryan Steilen and Joe Levitan each had a goal for Frederica. Colton Myers tallied two assists with Matthew Runyan adding an assist.

Frederica (3-1 overall, 1-0 GISA Region 2-3A) hosts Hilton Head Prep on Friday.


The Brunswick girls soccer team fell 9-3 at Camden on Tuesday.

Camden scored the first three goals before Jordan Caprino broke through for Brunswick to make it 3-1. Veronica Sosa would convert a pass from Jalyn Morgan into a goal, but Camden led 4-2 at halftime.

After a Camden score, Caprino found Morgan for a goal to make it 5-3 before Camden pulled away the rest of the half.
