One down, 15 more to go for College of Coastal Georgia’s volleyball team in conference play.

Coastal Georgia started Sun Conference play Saturday with a home sweep of Keiser University. The Mariners won 25-18, 25-10 and 25-20 to push their record to 7-6 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Kyra White led Coastal’s attack, converting 13 kills for a .524 hitting percentage. Alexis Downey added 12 kills against one error an efficient hitting percentage of .688. Downey also led the teams with six aces.

Ashley Kot set up the Mariners’ hitters, tallying 34 assists. Kot and Laney Green each totaled two aces. Yorelis Rios Gonzalez topped the team in digs with 10. Coastal returns to the court at Florida National University on Friday before the Mariners play their first road conference game Saturday at St. Thomas University.


The fall slate tees off for the Coastal men’s and women’s golf teams today in the Isles. Both teams will be hosting their own Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational at courses in the area.

The Coastal men, who enter the season ranked fourth in the NAIA, will welcome teams to Sea Island Golf Club’s Retreat Course on St. Simons Island for a 54-hole event.

The Mariner women and their competition will tee it up at Jekyll Island Golf Club’s Pine Lakes Course.


College of Coastal Georgia is one of 171 colleges to be selected as a Champions of Character Five-Star Institution Award winner for 2017-18 school year.

Coastal earned silver status. It is the third time in Coastal’s short history in the NAIA to be selected for the honor. A key initiative of the NAIA to help change the culture of sport, Champions of Character focuses on five core values – integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
