Close competition across all leaderboards is setting up for an exciting finish at the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour’s Mid Season Invitational at Sea Island Golf Club’s Plantation course.

Monday’s second round saw Matthew Soucinek of Lake City, Fla., post a 3-under 69 to lead the 16- to 18-year-old boys division by five shots over first round co-leaders Worth Pickens and Jaden Weisman. Soucinek had a bogey-free round with three birdies to 15 pars.

St. Simons Island’s Pickens was 3-over for the day after carding a 1-under 71 on Sunday. Pickens had two birdies against three bogeys and one double bogey.

Weisman, from Malvern, Pa., had one birdie to four bogeys to tally a 75 on Monday. Mitch Hoffman and JD Del Priore are tied for fourth at 4 over.

In the girls 14-18 division, Sarah Edwards’ first-round lead has shrunk to two shots after Edwards carded a 78 in the second round. Lauren Davenport is in second place with a 75 on Tuesday. Abby Glen is alone in third place, three shots behind Edwards. McKenzie Mages has a two-shot advantage over Staci Pla and Amanda Phillips in the girls under 13 division.

In the boys 14-15 group, Charles Warren has a two-shot lead over Payne Elkins going into the final round. Chapman Bennett leads the 11-13 boys by two shots over Reed Lotter, and Jackson Harris has a three-shot advantage over Carson Higginbottom in the boys under 10 division.

The tournament concludes today on Plantation.
