The University of Maryland acknowledged Tuesday that the football player who collapsed during practice and subsequently died did not receive proper medical care and the school must accept "legal and moral responsibility for the mistakes." Maryland has parted ways with strength and conditioning coach Rick Court, who resigned in the wake offensive lineman Jordan McNair's death. Athletic director Damon Evans says "mistakes were made" in the treatment of the 19-year-old McNair.

Chicago Bears first-round draft pick Roquan Smith has signed his contract and went right to work. He practiced for the first time since training camp began. The Georgia linebacker was the last player from the 2018 NFL draft to sign. He worked with the first and second team before the team headed to Denver for a week of practice and a preseason game with the Broncos.

Jaguars coach Doug Marrone believes defensive ends Dante Fowler and Yannick Ngakoue can coexist in the same locker room, in the same meeting room and even in the same huddle. Marrone provided little insight into what prompted the players' post-practice skirmish and declined to divulge why Fowler was suspended and Ngakoue was not. But Marrone made it clear he expects Fowler and Ngakoue to be able to work together moving forward.

The upside to Jim Furyk finishing so early at the PGA Championship was being able to watch the final round on television, partly as a player but mostly as the Ryder Cup captain. And that meant seeing plenty of Tiger Woods. Furyk says he is excited about the eight players who qualified for the team, and would only say he's excited to see how Woods is playing.
