To place a spaceport on Camden County land is a very dangerous ecological and human endeavor. This is a threat to the peace and tranquility of our beautiful Golden Isles.

In the first place, by not being an ocean launch site but an intercoastal waterway site means a lot of disruption of mankind. This concerns the intercoastal waterway access closures, nearby airspace restrictions, and wresting individuals from nearby homes, camping, or recreational places preceding launches and includes St. Simons, Jekyll, Little Cumberland and Big Cumberland Islands. This is already happening in Boca Chica Village, Texas where residents near the Elon Musk’s SpaceX launch site face curfews and evacuations.

Secondly, there would be potential disruption and further contamination by launch failure for birds, fish, amphibious creatures, and other wildlife (i.e. loggerhead turtles). We think one tragic accident like the Thiokol explosion in 1971 is enough for this land area!

Thirdly, this financial venture by Camden County Board of Commissioners is estimated to cost Camden County taxpayers $960,000 simply for the preliminary impact study with much higher costs estimated of almost $5,000,000 during the due diligence and closing period. This comes as a complete surprise to us as Camden County taxpayers. We have had a residence on Little Cumberland Island for the past 25 years. At the minimum, a referendum should have been held for taxpayer approval concerning this significant public investment into a private development.
