Congratulations to the Golden Isles SSA U9 soccer team and kudos to Coach Ben Jones on their Southern Soccer Association Championship. By having to play older, bigger competitors during the seasons, Coach Jones taught his team a valuable “life” lesson. Sometimes life isn’t fair. It can be tough, but if you persist and work hard, the rewards can be endless. This is leadership taught at a young age where it should start.

Coach Jones’s comment about parental behavior and player dissension is also to be commended. In my opinion, this is a lesson a lot of parents could learn, a lesson that one of my sons taught me at his early age.

Coach Jones’s last statement, to me, says it all: “If we allow out-of-control parents and kids to talk back to referees, what are we teaching them? We’re setting them up for failure.”

Well said, Coach Jones.

Fire gutted a vacant house shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, leaving fire crews working hard through noon to extinguish the flames and make sure they did not spread to nearby trees or the neighboring business.

This past week, I received a telephonic Robo Call from someone stating he represented the Glynn County Republican Party. There surely must be a parallel universe with a similar name since that call was nothing but false accusations and lies about ESPLOST 3.
