Much has been made about the rising stock market under Donald Trump. True, the S&P 500 index has moved from about 2271 to 3023 from Jan. 21, 2017, to Oct. 26, 2019; an increase of some 33 percent during Trump’s first 33 months in office.

Comparing the first 33 months of Barack Obama’s first term — Jan. 21, 2009, to Oct. 26, 2011 — the same index grew from about 832 to 1285; an increase of some 54 percent. I don’t know about you, but I’ll take the 55 percent.

Fire gutted a vacant house shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, leaving fire crews working hard through noon to extinguish the flames and make sure they did not spread to nearby trees or the neighboring business.
