The elevation of every political decision to dire emergency has taken an unsuspecting populace hostage. The captor is the current trend in both bloated political parties that corral our country into both extremes.

Abetting this criminal enterprise is a national press that profits, not from the passing of information but from the collection and amplification of strife. The reduction of civil discourse brings us close to the abyss — the lies, the obfuscations — they push us over escarpment.

There has never been a more important time to pull ourselves up and out of the apathetic stupor of our individual circumstance and rattle the doors of government until it becomes something unlike a hostage taker.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Demand better.
