I want to share a story about some amazing people in our community.

I chair the Magnolia Park College Park Neighborhood Planning Assembly. In preparations for Hurricane Michael, the city of Brunswick had committed to helping our subdivision in College Park with sand and sandbags since flooding has been an issue in our neighborhood.

Thanks to Mr. Garrow Alberson, city engineer, and Ms. Shantia Lewis of the city of Brunswick, sand and sandbags were delivered to our park. Residents of our neighborhood were able to get sandbags and some who were not physically able had sandbags delivered to them. Some were not from our community, but we did not stop anyone from receiving help.

No one asked if the other was Democrat or Republican, straight or gay, immigrant or not. But Vietnam vets, 20 year veterans, 11 year veterans, and neighbors banded together to help one another.

Special thanks to the Brunswick Fire Department, especially Jeff and Caleb, who helped bag sandbags, provided cold water, Pepsi and pizza. Thanks to all the College Park neighbors who committed their time to helping many in our community who could not make up sandbags for themselves. This is the America that I envision.

Fire gutted a vacant house shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, leaving fire crews working hard through noon to extinguish the flames and make sure they did not spread to nearby trees or the neighboring business.

This past week, I received a telephonic Robo Call from someone stating he represented the Glynn County Republican Party. There surely must be a parallel universe with a similar name since that call was nothing but false accusations and lies about ESPLOST 3.
