After doing a little checking, I have arrived at the following figures about firefighter pay in the city of Brunswick as compared to the Glynn County Fire Department:

A city of Brunswick entry level firefighter makes $27,030.

A Glynn County entry level firefighter makes $33,074.

The difference is $6,044.

A city of Brunswick certified firefighter makes $28,370.

A Glynn County entry level firefighter makes $33,074.

The difference is $4,704.

The disparity in salaries is obvious. Having Brunswick Fire Department personnel become EMT’s will not alleviate the situation. A Firefighter/EMT with Glynn County has a starting salary of $34,570 annually.

An EMT must complete 40 hours of continuing education every year, CPR certification, and, when I was an EMT, would have to ride an ambulance for a given number of hours. Now with the city of Brunswick not owning an ambulance, how does the city propose to accomplish this?

Come on Brunswick, wake up. Quit trying to create smoke screens and pay public safety, fire and police, personnel a salary commensurate with Glynn County. If you don’t, you will continue to have people leave for more money after they receive their training.

Fire gutted a vacant house shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, leaving fire crews working hard through noon to extinguish the flames and make sure they did not spread to nearby trees or the neighboring business.

This past week, I received a telephonic Robo Call from someone stating he represented the Glynn County Republican Party. There surely must be a parallel universe with a similar name since that call was nothing but false accusations and lies about ESPLOST 3.
