This past Saturday afternoon, a group of about 80 young people presented a wonderful choral concert.

They are known as “Joyful Noise”, an honor choir made up of students from Brunswick, Waycross and Savannah. They gave up a weekend to rehearse all Friday afternoon and most of Saturday before presenting a delightful program at the Morgan Center on Jekyll Island.

I wish there had been a bigger crowd to hear the varied program — ranging from spirituals, to modern sounds, to the favorite “And the Glory of the Lord” by Handel. These young people are our hope for tomorrow.

A few non-participating students came in late, noisily, and could not be bothered to put down their cellphones and listen. The choir members are the positive examples in today’s world. I applaud them, their school directors, and the festival organizers. Great job well done.

Fire gutted a vacant house shortly before 11 a.m. Friday, leaving fire crews working hard through noon to extinguish the flames and make sure they did not spread to nearby trees or the neighboring business.

This past week, I received a telephonic Robo Call from someone stating he represented the Glynn County Republican Party. There surely must be a parallel universe with a similar name since that call was nothing but false accusations and lies about ESPLOST 3.
