Jonell Thompson, 89, of Brunswick, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, in her home surrounded by family and friends.

Jonell was preceded in death by her father, Wade Davis; her mother, Maxie Jackson; her husband of 53 years W.L. “Bill” Thompson; and several aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her daughter, Corbitt Gipson; her son, Speck Thompson and Marilyn Williams; and her grandchildren, Levi and Caleb Thompson.

She was the Worthy Grand Matron of the Order of Eastern Star for the State of Georgia in 1995. She was also the Worthy Matron of Marshes of Glynn No. 243, as well as being Royal Matron for the Port City Court No. 24, and a Dual Member of Brunswick Court No. 19.

Jonell was a lifetime member of Norwich Baptist Church, as well as a 30-year volunteer at the Brunswick Campus of the Southeast Georgia Health System.

The service will be Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, at Edo Miller and Sons. Visitation is at 9 a.m., and the service is at 10 a.m. with Dr. Glenn Carson officiating.

Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Bruce Buie, Randy Jackson, Darrell Thomas, Keith Stephens, Rick Smith and Stevie Stephens.

Honorary pallbearers will be Order of Eastern Star, Order of Amaranth and the Hospital Auxiliary Volunteers.
