Lana Sigler, 72, of Helena, Ala., passed away at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Ala., after a battle with cancer.
Lana was born in Kearney, Neb., to parents Ralph “Everett” and Ardys Pitcher. She and older brother, Lane, had an idyllic childhood, and spent many days at their father’s jewelry store, Pitcher’s Jewelry. She fondly recalled being a “car hop,” and had many tales about her friends.
After graduation from Kearney High School in 1965, Lana moved to Lookout Mountain, Ga., to attend Covenant College. She later returned home to attend Kearney State. Wanting something different, Lana moved to Chicago in her early 20s. She fell in love with the city and reminisced often of her time spent there. Lana moved back to Kearney in 1971, and met Al. They married in the summer of 1972, and began a family when their first child was born, a daughter named Shawna, in March 1974. Lana went on to have three more children in six more years — Mark, Cassie, and TJ. The family settled in Snellville, Ga., in 1980. Lana often described raising her four young children as the happiest time of her life.
The family relocated to Jacksonville, Ala., in 1990, and Lana finished her degree in secondary education at Jacksonville State University in 1994. She went on to work in the education field.
Perhaps the greatest joy of Lana’s life came in the form of her three beloved grandchildren – Miles (8), Ginny (21 months) and Charlie (12 months). She was the most loving Neena the world had ever known.
Lana is survived by her children and their spouses, Shawna Sigler, Pelham, Ala., Mark Sigler, St. Simons Island, Ga., Cassie (Blake) Allen, Helena, Ala., and TJ (Elizabeth) Sigler, Atlanta, Ga.; her grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Lane (Barbara) Pitcher, Kearney, Neb.; and her two special nieces, Molly (Christopher) Bussard, Loveland, Colo., and Sarah (James) Tilley, Kearney, Neb.; among other loved ones. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Lana’s memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, at Grace Christian Church in Helena, Ala., with the Rev. Brad Henderson officiating. She will later have a private graveside service in Kearney, Neb.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Shelby County, Ala., Humane Society.
