Carmela Behrens

Carmela Panis Behrens, 68, passed away on Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Hospital in Fayetteville, N.C.

She was born on the Army base in Schwabach, Germany, on June 26, 1949, to Philemon C. and Anna Marie Eck Panis. Carmela has surviving siblings, an older brother, Phillip Panis, and a younger sister, Mildred Addy. She was the mother of three children, Shannon Behrens, Sherri Brownlee and Eduardo Clark Jr.

Those who knew Carmela “Carmen,” knew her as a fun-loving Bingo lover, and paranormal investigator who loved shopping and spending time at the beach fishing.

Carmela was the founder of Oma’s Inc. Charter School in Fayetteville, N.C., and a year round volunteer for The Arts Council of Fayetteville, N.C. She worked for many battered women’s shelters and social services with outreach programs in Southern California, and was also known for her accomplished automotive sales for Ford Motor Co.

Carmela’s funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church and School, 2840 Village Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28304, followed by burial in Lafayette Memorial Park West, 6701 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304.
