ATLANTA (AP) — Jeff Schultz of The Athletic won honors for best column, best columnist and the best overall story in the annual Georgia Sports Writers Association's annual contest.

Schultz won the sweepstakes award for best overall story for his column on former Atlanta Falcons executive Scott Pioli.

The awards were announced on Sunday.

The Marietta Daily Journal won honors for best sports section, best Sunday sports section and best special section. The Gwinnett Daily Post and Savannah Morning News placed in the top three in each of the three categories.

Awards for best event story on deadline were won by Chris Kirschner of The Athletic and Will Hammock of the Gwinnett Daily Post. Seth Emerson of The Athletic and Dennie Knight of the Savannah Morning News won awards for best sports news stories on deadline.'

Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald and Patrick J. O'Shea of the Daily Citizen-News in Dalton won awards for best feature or series.

Stan Awtry of Golf Georgia won top honors for outdoors writing.

The contest was judged by Chris Low of ESPN.com; Dave Matter of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News.
