ATLANTA (AP) — One of Georgia’s largest school systems is recruiting volunteer medical professionals who would administer COVID-19 vaccinations to teacher and others.

Atlanta Public Schools is taking the step in anticipation of shots becoming available to teachers and staff members, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Georgia teachers are not yet eligible to receive the vaccine, but Gov. Brian Kemp has said that he will soon make an announcement about expanding vaccine eligibility to include more groups of people.

Atlanta Public Schools is preparing for thousands of educators to take the vaccine, once eligibility is expanded, Superintendent Lisa Herring wrote in a blog post.

“We know that vaccinating as many staff members as possible will be critical for continuing to open our schools safely,” Herring wrote.
