Brunswick police say an already rocky relationship turned violent late Saturday morning when a 19-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her live-in boyfriend in his sleep at their residence in the 1900 block of Albany Street, Police Capt. Angela Smith said.

Alfonso Nelson, 20, was stabbed in the abdomen and had his right arm sliced in the attack, police said. He was taken by ambulance to Southeast Georgia Health System’s Brunswick hospital, where he was flown by helicopter to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Smith said. He was in stable condition Monday, Smith said.

Police arrested Jeana Johnson, 19, and charged her with attempted murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery, according to jail records. She remained Monday in the Glynn County Detention Center, held without bond.

The two had been on bad terms for several days leading up the incident, Smith said. Nelson was asleep when Johnson allegedly attacked him, Smith said.

“Nelson was asleep when he was awakened by Johnson stabbing him,” Smith said.

Police arrived to find Nelson had been stabbed in the torso on the right side of his body and had suffered a laceration to his right forearm, a police report said.

Johnson was not at the residence when police responded to the 10:43 a.m. report of a stabbing, the report indicated. Johnson later returned to the home, at which time police arrested her, the report shows.
