An island chain steakhouse will close its doors permanently this week.

The Outback Steakhouse at 1609 Frederica Road on St. Simons Island will cease operation on Saturday, a manager at the establishment said Tuesday.

The eatery is owned by Tampa, Fla.-based Bloomin’ Brands, which said in a statement the closure “was based solely on business circumstances and has no reflection on the management or employees.”

Fifty-five people work at the restaurant, and some employees have been offered transfers to other locations within the company. Those who do not transfer will be offered severance packages, the company said.

The St. Simons Island Outback Steakhouse opened in 1998.

Bloomin’ Brands also operates Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar.
