The Golden Isles College and Career Academy will host its first “An Evening with the Stars” fundraiser on April 19 at Sea Island’s Retreat on St. Simons Island.

The event will raise money for the school’s foundation, and all proceeds will benefit student scholarships, service projects and academic competitions.

“We’re going to have all the proceeds go to the Career Academy Foundation, which raises money of course for things like school service projects and competitions like Robotics and Skills USA,” said Rick Townsend, CEO of the career academy.

GICCA’s advanced culinary students will prepare a meal for the event alongside Sea Island chefs.

“We’ve gotten our students engaged, and that’s what makes it special,” Townsend said. “… We always talk about giving our students real-life work opportunities, and what better experience for a culinary student than to work side by side of a Sea Island chef and prepare a meal at Sea Island.”

Maestro Luis Haza will serve as the event’s guest speaker.

“Of course, at the career academy we teach soft skills and strong work ethic, and he’s a classic example of that kind of person,” Townsend said.

The event will include a social hour, music, a silent and live auction and a buffet dinner.

The social hour will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will start at 7 p.m., followed by Haza’s talk.

Tickets cost $100. Sponsorships are also available and start at $300.

Donations are still being accepted for the auctions.

“We’re thankful of Sea Island and their partners for helping us and for supporting this partnership,” Townsend said. “It’s been great.”

Townsend said the fundraising goal of the event is $15,000.

“I just want to thank the community for their initial support,” he said. “We couldn’t do the things we do at the career academy, that we feel is above and beyond, without their continued support. You can’t beat the partnerships we have.”
