Former Glynn County Police Chief Carl Alexander died Tuesday after being under hospice care.

Alexander was hired in February as a special adviser to the Glynn County Commission to help with police matters and work directly with interim county police chief Rickey Evans after Evans replace former chief Jay Wiggins upon his retirement.

Alexander was the Glynn County Police Department Chief from 1987 to 2002, and subsequently had a 19-year career with the Sea Island Co. as its director of security.
