Kings Way — Officer Justin Floyd made a traffic stop on Retreat Avenue at Kings Way on St. Simons Island Thursday. While he was in his patrol car, a woman allegedly crashed into it in a white Ford Escape and fled the scene.

The vehicle was eventually stopped at Kings Way and Frederica Road and Susan Sheffield, 53, of St. Simons Island, was arrested and charged with DUI and failure to exercise due care.

Floyd was treated and released from Southeast Georgia Health System for back pain.

3400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard — Residents of a home in this block arrived home from evacuation to Atlanta and found someone had broken into their house.

100 block of Follins Lane — A mother was checking her daughter’s apartment while she was gone and reported a burglary.

Suspicious circumstances

Demere Road — An officer was conducting security checks in the area of Wilson Court when he noticed the front wooden storm barricade of the Friendly Express had been pried open. Under closer inspection, it appeared a large oak tree that had fallen caused it.
