The Confederate Civil War Memorial in Hanover Square was vandalized over the weekend.

The initials "BLM" were spray painted on the monument in the downtown Brunswick park.

Brunswick Mayor Cornell Harvey expressed disappointment the monument was defaced and said a city public works crew will be dispatched to remove the paint.

Anyone convicted of vandalizing any city monument, including the Confederate memorial, faces a fine, Harvey said.
