SoGlo Gallery, 1413 Newcastle St., Brunswick, will host an opening for an exhibit featuring the work of Laura Parker and Jillisa Milner at 6 p.m. during First Friday festivities. The exhibit will run through the end of September.

Redfern Goes Gold, a fundraising event for local children battling cancer, will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at 310 Redfern Village, St. Simons Island. Businesses will offer specials and items will be raffled. The proceeds will benefit Team Alexa Fighting Back benefiting CURE Childhood Cancer.

The Coastal Georgia Genealogical Society and St. Simons Public Library will host Ann Stanley as its guest speaker. She will offer a program titled “Death Record Research Sources: Beyond Death Records” from 2 to 3 p.m. at the St. Simons Island Casino, 530 Beachview Dr., St. Simons Island.

The 2018 World Paddling Tour Film Festival, hosted by On the Fly Outfitters and co-sponsored by SouthOutfitters, will be presented from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Ritz Theatre in downtown Brunswick. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased online at Eventbrite or On The Fly Outfitters. Prizes will be offered. All proceeds benefit Paddle4Tomorrow.

The Glynn County Republican Party will host a social with guest speaker, gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp. The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bennie’s Red Barn on St. Simons Island. Included will be a fish fry buffet, cash bar, raffle and live music. The cover charge is $10 per person.

Monday, Sept. 10

The Golden Isles Republican Women will hold its monthly meeting with registration at 11:45 a.m. followed by the noon program at the Bonefish Grill in Retreat Plaza on the Island, St. Simons Island. The cost is $20 which covers lunch, beverage, dessert and gratuity. Cash and checks are accepted. The guest speakers will be Richard Woods, State School Superintendent, and Ron Adams, Glynn County Clerk of Superior Court. Reservations are requested by Sept. 8.
