Body of Brunswick man found in River

The body of a 57-year-old Brunswick man was found Friday morning floating in the East River at Brunswick Landing Marina, 1701 Torras Landing off of Bay Street, Brunswick Police said.

Police identified the man as Fred Batton, said Brunswick Capt Angela Smith. “Mr. Batton was known to fish frequently in the area,” Smith said.

Someone called police about 9:30 a.m. after spotting his body floating in the water, Smith said.

Police are still trying to determine how he wound up in the water. No further details were immediately available.
