The Brunswick High and Glynn Academy cross country teams competed Thursday at the Buc Country Run in Darien.
Savannah Christian’s boys and girls teams swept the event. The Glynn Academy girls came in second with Grace Thacker (21 minutes, 47 seconds) and Sally Brock (22:35) finishing second and fourth respectively. Sarah Powell’s time of 24 minutes was good enough for 17th, with her teammate Emily Hischier seven seconds behind Powell in 18th. Geneivive Shiver’s 36th place finish in 25:47 rounded out the Lady Terrors’ score.
Mia Colucci (25:02) and Carri Sturm (25:42) had the best finishes for the Lady Pirates in 27th and 34th place, respectively. Jordan Caprino (27:07), Zuri Hernandez (27:52) and Emily Spence (33:50) rounded out the top times for Brunswick, which finished in 10th.
In the boys race, Brunswick High’s Dalton Pender had the best time among local schools with a fifth-place finish in 18:23. The Pirates finished in sixth place with Edgar Noyola (19:27), Jonathoan Kirkland (19:45), Jamilah Webb (20:13) and Nick Poole (20:25) rounding out the scoring for Brunswick.
The Glynn Academy boys finished third with Blake Lewis (18:49) and Erliver Ramirez (18:51) finishing in ninth and 10th, respectively. Jared Conway (19:58), Javier Valencia (20:07) and Thomas Brock (20:12) rounded out the top five for Glynn.
Risley Middle School finished the softball season 8-0, picking up two wins over McIntosh on Wednesday. Risely won Game 1 of the doubleheader 4-3 and swept the day with a 19-2 win in Game 2.
Leilani Watts was the winning pitcher in both games and had a double and an RBI in Game 1. Mady Wilborn, Cara Gann, Cassie Naldrett and Shannon Cox had a hit in the first game.
In Game 2, Gann and Peyton Strickland each had two hits and two RBIs. Wilborn added two hits and an RBI and Anna Mancil added a hit and two RBIs.
Up next for Risley is the conference tournament.
