College of Coastal Georgia golf is in third place after the Mariners' five golfers logged their first 18 holes at the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament in Montgomery, Ala., Monday afternoon.

The Mariners combined to shoot 8-over 292, two strokes behind Faulkner University at 290.

For the Mariners to win the tournament, they will have to rally past Dalton State, which shot 278 on the first day of the tournament. Three Dalton State golfers are tied for first on the individual leaderboard after recording 3-under 68.

Paxton Shuman led the Mariners with 1-under 70, tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard. Taylor Gilbeau recorded 2-over 73, and Seth Sanders carded 3-over 74.

The Mariners tee off today for the second round of the three-day tournament.
