JWSC closes intersection of MLK and G St. after sewer line break

Brunswick-Glynn County Joint Water and Sewer Commission work crews closed G Street at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard after a part of the road collapsed Tuesday night.

A leaking sewer line dislodged enough dirt to cause the road to fall in slightly Tuesday night, said Greg Sellers, construction supervisor. Workers began digging under the road Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m., and Greg Sellers, construction supervisor, said they expected to be finished later that evening.

The pipe was made of vitrified clay, Jay Sellers, director of administration, which is known to break when the ground around it shifts. The segment that broke will be replaced with PVC pipe.
