A U.S. Coast Guard boat pulled three men from a sinking shrimp boat Thursday afternoon offshore from McIntosh County near Egg Island, Coast Guard Station Brunswick Commander Justin Irwin said.

A 911 emergency call from the Lady Vanessa at around 3 p.m. Thursday indicated the shrimp trawler was taking on water, Irwin said. Coast Guard Station Brunswick sent a 29-foot response boat to the area, while a Coast Guard helicopter from Savannah also arrived, Irwin said.

The three men on board were lifted safely aboard the helicopter, as the shrimp boat sank, Irwin said. Egg Island is in the Altamaha Sound, just north of Little St. Simons Island and south of Sapelo Island.
