Health department offering flu vaccines

The Glynn County Health Department now has injectable flu vaccine available. Vaccinations are recommended for everyone six months of age and older. It takes about two weeks after getting a flu shot for the vaccine to provide the body protection against the flu. Blood drive to be held Monday at The Club

The Club on St. Simons Island will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at the facility, 2929 Demere Road, St. Simons Island. For more information on signing up, contact The Club at 912-638-5600.

Mammos & ManiCURES planned for Thursday

Mammos & ManiCURES, an upbeat event that celebrates National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, will be held Thursday at the Brunswick Campus, Outpatient Care Center, 2500 Starling St., and on the Camden Campus, Oct. 19, Conference Center, 2000 Dan Proctor Dr., St. Marys. The event is free and open to all.

The event will feature educational programs, as well as miniature spa treatments. Mammogram screenings will be available but will require a doctor’s order. Insurance is accepted and financial assistance is available to patients who qualify. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. Pink Out planned for Friday

The Annual Pink Out to Remember is planned for Friday. Each year, the event promotes breast cancer awareness in communities by asking everyone to wear pink.

Local schools are also featuring pink during their football games Friday and in McIntosh County Oct. 20.

Annual ARTrageous

Bra Fundraiser to return

The Southeast Georgia Health System Foundation is currently hosting its annual ARTrageous Bras fundraiser to promote breast cancer awareness. The Brunswick Campus Horton Gallery and the Camden Campus art gallery are displaying the various ARTrageous Bras for viewing. The exhibit will run until Oct. 31.

Those interested may cast their $1 votes for their favorites. Photos of the ARTrageous Bras are also posted on the health system’s website for electronic voting.

At the end of the month, the ARTrageous Bras that have earned the most votes will be modeled in a live auction and the remaining entries placed in a silent auction. The auctions will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Laurel Island Links Clubhouse, 233 Marsh Harbour Parkway, Kingsland.
