Ron Reigner, PhD, recently accepted the title of president of the Georgia Reading Association (GRA) from Julie Walker, immediate past-president of GRA and a literacy specialist with Tift County Schools. After teaching for 17 years with the University System of Georgia, Reigner recently retired from the College of Coastal Georgia where he was holder of the Community-Sponsored Professorship in Early Childhood Reading and Language Arts in the School of Education and Teacher Preparation.
The Georgia Reading Association is the state-wide affiliate of the International Literacy Association. GRA publishes both the Georgia Journal of Reading and the Focus newsletter. It sponsors local chapters across the state, provides undergraduate and graduate student scholarships and teacher grants for innovative local literacy initiatives, and presents the annual Georgia Reader of the Year Award to children, elementary through high school, from across the state.
