“Cherokee Cottage and who are the Shradys? … Things You May Not Know”.?” a historical program will be presented by Bonnie Householder, the president of the Jekyll Island Arts Association. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Mission Parlor of the Jekyll Presbyterian Community Church, 475 N. Riverview Dr., Jekyll Island. Ample parking is available, and refreshments will be served following her presentation. The program, sponsored by the Friends of Historic Jekyll Island, is free and open to the public.

The Jekyll Squares will hold a square dance open house at 7 p.m. Sept. 28 and will continue until Oct. 5. Each event will be held on a Thursday at the Christian Life Center of the College Place United Methodist Church in Brunswick. Saturday, Sept. 30

“The Lego Batman Movie,” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. on the Village Green on Jekyll Island as part of the “Movies on the Green” series. Free.

Team Alexa Fighting Bank and CURE will host Redfern Goes Gold, a fundraiser for the families of children with cancer, will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. at Gnat’s Landing. An auction, entertainment and door prizes will be available. For more information, email kerry@curechildhoodcancer.org.

Sunday, Oct. 1

Complicated Pants will perform from 6-8 p.m. at Mary Ross Waterfront Park in Brunswick as part of the “Rhythm on the River” concert series sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority. Family-friendly. Bring chairs, blankets, a picnic and your favorite beverage. Free.

Hometown Hero, a community picnic to celebrate recovery after Hurricane Irma, will be held at 5 p.m. at the Casino on St. Simons Island. Backbeat Boulevard, Owen Plant and Suzie and the Birddogs will perform. Dignitaries will also speak and prayers will be offered.

Monday, Oct. 2

The St. Simons Food Spirits Festival will be held from Friday to Oct. 8. Thursday, Oct. 5

“Smokey Joe’s Cafe” will be performed by The Island Players at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays Oct. 5-21 and at 3 p.m. Sundays Oct. 8-22, at the St. Simons Casino Theatre, 530 Beachview Drive, St. Simons Island. Friday, Oct. 6

Glynn Environmental Coalition will meet at 11:15 a.m. at the Olive Garden Restaurant, 600 Glynn Isles, Brunswick. There will be an open period for members to speak on issues.

First Friday, a downtown block party, will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. along the streets of Newcastle Street in Brunswick. Various stores will stay open later and hold specials. During the event, Vivian La Vivi Mitchell will hold an art opening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ritz Theatre downtown.

The Roaring Twenties Charity Ball, benefiting 100 Miles, will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. at Old City Hall, 1229 Newcastle Street, Brunswick. The theme is the 1920s and formal or costume attire is required. The cost is $20 (in cash) at the door and a cash bar will also be provided.
