The Eugenia Price/Joyce Blackburn Foundation in association with Golden Isles Arts & Humanities is pleased to announce the 19th Annual Young Playwright’s Award. This award cultivates and recognizes the literary talents of all public and private middle grade students in Glynn County. Any student wishing to participate in the Young Playwrights Award must either attend a playwriting workshop sponsored by Golden Isles Arts & Humanities or receive permission to enter. Schools are encouraged to request a playwriting workshop at their school either during the day or after school at no cost.
The Young Playwright’s Award encourages middle school students to express their creativity through written dramatic form. The plays are “blind judged” by writers and theatre professionals; the winners will receive a cash prize of up to $500 after participating in two sessions to workshop their play with theatre professionals followed by a public staged reading on January 28, 2018. Originality, creativity and content are the basis of the judges’ decisions.
Free playwriting workshops will be hosted by Golden Isles Arts & Humanities on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 4:30 pm and on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11 am at the Historic Ritz Theatre. Reservations are required to ensure there are enough materials for all attendees.
The deadline for submissions of scripts is Friday, November 17, 2017 by 5:00 p.m. to Golden Isles Arts & Humanities offices located in the Historic Ritz Theatre, 1530 Newcastle Street, Brunswick, GA 31520. To RSVP to the workshops, schedule a workshop at your school, or for a copy of the guidelines, please contact Golden Isles Arts & Humanities at 912-262-6934 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
