A man allegedly shot and killed his wife Friday night at a home in Glynn County where police have previously been called for reports of domestic abuse, county Police Chief Matt Doering said.

Douglas Morris Morgan, 55, was arrested and charged with murder following the shooting at 242 Willow Road, Doering said. Michelle Morgan, 48, died in a bedroom at the scene, Doering said.

Police were called to the house at 8:34 p.m. and found Michelle Morgan dead with a gunshot wound. Douglas Morgan told police the shooting was an accident. However, police determined after several hours of investigating that there was sufficient cause to charge him with murder, Doering said.

“There has been a history of domestic abuse (at the residence),” Doering said.

It is the second murder reported in Glynn County in less than a week, following the shooting death last Sunday of Antonio Jenkins, 23, at the Southern Pines Mobile Home Park.
